Writing for the Willis - from Fact to Fiction

Past Projects

If you’d like to see what we’ve been up to in the past, we’ve made some work available to you on the Past Projects page.

History of Artefacts at the Willis Museum relived through the imagination of local writers.

The current Basingstoke Writers’ Circle project is for an exhibition at the Willis Museum in November 2009. The museum has renovated its space and, as part of that renovation, a Community Gallery has been added. The museum has asked us to provide short descriptive pieces (maximum of 150 words and any genre) for the many and varied items in its collection. We are also providing longer pieces (up to 1,500 words) for a book, to be sold through the museum.

Objective

The objective of the project is to write short fiction or poetry on the theme of “Basingstoke”. The intended audience will be visitors and locals, adults and children, interested in the history of the town. The setting for the work can be past, present or future.

The challenge is is make some reference to an artefact that the museum holds in its collection, or to the building itself.

All work should now have been handed over to Shirley!
